Mycelium Network
The mycelium matrix of fungi forms the basis of the wood wide web, connecting all plants and tress of a community into a giant interconnected network. This underground communication system allows for the transport and exchange of essential nutrients. Although this image brings to mind the undergrowth of a forest, it actually is a chemical stain left behind on a glass slide which exhibits a floral-like pattern of birefringence in its crystalline structure. Polarized light microscopy.
