Micrometeorite

This micrometeorite was found in a sediment core from Lake Michigan. Micrometeorites are sub-millimeter extraterrestrial dust particles that have survived atmospheric entry. These materials experience rapid heating and cooling that cannot be replicated in laboratories. SEM backscattered electron image at 20 kV.
