Join MSA Publications - Publish with Purpose for a one to one and a half webinar introducing Elemental Microscopy https://www.elementalmicroscopy.com/, a pioneering online journal published by the Microscopy Society of America (MSA).
Elemental Microscopy and its technology partner, Curvenote, https://curvenote.com/, a web-first scientific publishing platform, redefine scholarly communication by offering a platform where research is not just read, but experienced. Its digital-first approach enables authors to present their findings in more engaging and insightful ways - empowering readers to interact with data, visualize complex concepts, and apply new techniques directly from the article.
Why Attend?
This session is designed as an introduction for prospective authors, researchers, and educators eager to leverage cutting-edge digital publishing tools and open science initiatives. Discover how Elemental Microscopy can amplify your research impact, foster collaboration, and provide an enriched educational resource for the global scientifi c community.
Elemental Microscopy (EM) features:
- EM reimagines the scientific article as a living, interactive document rather than a static PDF
- Built on open-source technology: using MyST Markdown, Jupyter Notebooks, and open environment management tools to streamline authoring and reproducibility, including open data and code sharing
- 3D visualization via interactive articles featuring embedded video, executable code, and reproducibility
- Comprehensive reviews and tutorials covering fundamental theory, instrumentation, experimental methods, and data analysis
- Coverage of diverse fields: biology, life sciences, geology, engineering, materials science, nanoscience, physics, and archaeology
Webinar Highlights
- Walkthrough of the Elemental Microscopy platform
- Guidance on preparing and submitting interactive articles
- Insights into maximizing your research visibility and educational impact
- Q&A with the Editor-in-Chief
About the Speakers
Colin Ophus is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and a Center Fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford University. Previously, he was a Staff Scientist at the National Center for Electron Microscopy at Lawrence Berkeley Lab. His research focuses on experimental methods, reconstruction algorithms, and software for simulation and analysis in transmission electron microscopy. He is a strong advocate for open science, has developed open-source scientifi c software, and is the founder and editor-in-chief of the interactive journal Elemental Microscopy.
Rowan Cockett has a PhD in computational geophysics from the University of British Columbia, he researched a numerical framework aimed at increasing quantitative communication in the geosciences developed through his studies on numerical geophysics, subsurface fl ow, and structural geology. Co-founder and CEO of Curvenote, Rowan is a ech entrepreneur and computational geophysicist focused on making technical content engaging through interactivity.
