President’s Blog – June 2017

President’s Letter
June 2017

Dear MSA Colleagues,

I am using my June blog to encourage you to support the programming of the Society’s Student Council (StC) by using a new feature on the MSA website. As shown above, we now have a Donate button prominently highlighted in the website banner. The Society had developed this feature to allow individuals or organizations to support MSA’s mission over and above their annual dues, and the plan was to debut this at the 75th anniversary meeting. However, since several individuals have asked about the possibility of sponsoring the StC-organized Inaugural Pre-Meeting Congress (PMC) for Early Career Professionals, we have rolled this out a month early to allow MSA members to do so. Any funds donated during the month of July will go to support the Student Council’s PMC.

The Donate button appears next to a newly highlighted Join MSA button at the top of the web site banner, at the same level with the Search bar and the links to MSA’s social media pages (and to this blog!). If you have never done so, you might consider clicking on each of these links to review the content. The button links to a donation page, which is securely encrypted to allow entry of your credit card information, as it is for annual dues renewal. You will receive an immediate e-mail acknowledgment of your donation for tax purposes. As these funds go exclusively to support the mission of the Microscopy Society of America, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

For the month of July, all donations will benefit the Student Council’s Inaugural Pre-Meeting Congress (PMC) for Early Career Professionals. This PMC is meant to showcase award-winning research being presented at M&M 2017, representing all areas of microscopy and microanalysis. The program is led by keynote presentations of MSA’s 2017 early career major award winners: Chris Russo, 2017 Burton Medalist; Sai Veeraraghavan, 2017 Palade Award winner; and Pinshane Huang, 2017 Crewe Award winner. Also featured are 13 invited talks by scholarship winners representing all three M&M 2017 co-sponsoring societies. The program includes a career development luncheon and a contributed poster session (21 and counting!). I encourage all of you to review the latest program, which can be found on the PMC web site, and be sure to thank the Society’s commercial partners who have generously sponsored this event.

Donations in any amount are welcome! All donations will be dedicated to funding of student sponsored events for M&M 2017 or future meetings. The student organizers will acknowledge all donors in the final version of the PMC Program unless anonymity is requested. Please be generous!
